Chasing The Sun

Since my moped didn't make the trip with us,  I've been jones'n to feel the rush of speed on two wheels. So, we rented a motorcycle, a 125cc Honda (no license required. God I love Mexico).  For 40 bucks you get the bike for 24 hours, helmets, insurance, and the freedom to go where ever your heart desires.  Now, my only experience with riding a motorized bike is from the moped, which has one gear and one brake and weighs about 70 lbs.  Needless to say, getting used to a clutch and gears took a few spins around the block and a few embarrassing stalls in the middle of town straddling a giant topes (speed bump).  But after that, we hit the open highway and headed north to a nice little agua caliente (hot spring) about a 50 minute ride away.

The hot mineral water was a welcome relief after the ride and we soaked our weary bones for a few hours before heading back home.

Blue eyed soul

Finally, the long awaited action shots of the elusive surfer, Ol' Spinny are here!  She only makes one request, and that is this song be played while the pictures are viewed.

So, turn up yer speakers, dust off yer old hearing aid, crack a beer, and do whatever else you need to do to, sit back, relax, and enjoy.

"You know you're living when it all becomes a blur"

As the title suggests our time here has gone by extremely fast, while on the other hand our blog posts have slowed to a crawl, at best.  For this, I must apologize to all our faithful blog followers, (sorry Mom and Dad)...

With two weeks left in mexico, the brutal realization that we're not gonna be able to wear flip flops anymore has struck hard. Winter is coming, and theres no escaping this time, but as truth northmen we will grin and bear it.  Because at the end of the day winter is in our bones and there is a sick little part of me that misses it.

Heres a nice song, enjoy.

The Doldrums.

All in a hot and copper sky,
The bloody Sun, at noon,
'
Right up above the mast did stand,
No bigger than the Moon.
Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, no breath no motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

-Samuel Taylor Coleridge,

Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner

Any surfer, sailor, or person who enjoys activities on the water has or will experience the phenomena known as the doldrums.  For us, that time is now.  The last week or so has yeilded absolutely no swell,  I mean NADA!  Neptune must have gone on a sabbatical or something.  And with no swell on the forecast for at least 8 more days, this phenomena is starting to play tricks with our minds.

We wake up every morning, before dawn with the promise of a new day and waves.  And we are crushed every time when we visit our favourite surf spots only to find them looking like Cameron Lake!

One of our crew, Billy, has reached his breaking point and has fled the coastal paradise for the promise of mystical adventures filled with peyote, dog fights, low riders, and whatever else Guadalajara can throw at him.

The rest of us are preparing a blood sacrifice, hopefully to appease the god of the ocean and get his lazy ass back to work!

In other news, my family flew in the other day and we've had an awesome first couple days together.  Yesterday we caught about 150lbs of fish on a very exciting deep sea fish trip.

Louis has also joined our crew and is currently renting the penthouse suite of Stella Regencies.
